How We Met

It all began on a sunny afternoon in September 2024. What started as a simple online dating experience slowly evolved into something far more meaningful. Conversation after conversation, Ruben and Patria found themselves opening up about their pasts, their present lives, and the dreams they carried for the future.

For Ruben, it had been a long time since he had allowed himself to truly fall in love again. Yet with every late-night chat and every shared laugh, his feelings for Patria grew stronger. Patria, however, carried herself with a certain mystery — playful, cautious, and a little hard to catch. That only made Ruben more certain that what they were building was special.

By December 2024, they officially became a couple. Even so, their relationship still existed entirely through screens and messages. Real life would have to wait a little longer. Months passed, bringing both beautiful moments and difficult challenges. The distance tested them in ways neither had expected, but despite the hardships, they continued choosing each other day after day.

Then came December 2025 — one full year into their relationship. After all the waiting, uncertainty, and hope, Ruben finally made the decision he had been dreaming about for months: he booked a plane ticket to meet Patria in person for the very first time.

What had begun as a random online connection was now about to become something real.

The Airport

While carrying so many doubts and fears, both of them still wanted something real — and so, the journey began.

For Patria, it meant a nonstop six-hour drive to Manila Terminal 3 Airport. For Ruben, it meant surviving a long 20-hour flight across the world. It was only his second time flying, and the very first time he had ever done it alone. He was traveling to a country he had never seen before, a place not everyone considered safe or welcoming. Still, love spoke louder than fear, and he knew he had to see her.

After all the waiting, the messages, the calls, and the endless dreaming, the moment had finally arrived.

But when Ruben stepped out and waited for her, every minute felt endless. Twenty minutes passed… though to him, it felt more like thirty hours. His mind raced with fear and uncertainty. What if she never came? What if the woman he loved disappeared before he could even hold her hand?

And then, she appeared.

Not only did she come — she arrived carrying a bouquet of flowers, smiling shyly as she walked toward him. In that instant, every fear disappeared. She was not only everything he expected… she was so much more.

And her very first words?

“You are so tall.”

The nervousness quickly turned into laughter. They headed back to the hotel, dropped off their things, and spent hours simply walking together and talking about everything — especially Ruben’s unforgettable experience on the plane. Little by little, the awkwardness faded. Ruben even managed to get a fresh haircut, slowly becoming less shy around her.

Patria, on the other hand, could barely hide how flustered she was. She blushed constantly, red as a tomato every time he looked at her.

For the first time, what had once only existed behind screens finally felt real.
